How To Get Your Canadian PR: Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)

🛫 Applying For AIP Canada?

AIP Canada is designed to boost economic growth in Canada’s Atlantic Provinces, including New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. Through the program, the government aims to attract skilled workers to the areas.

The Atlantic Immigration Program in Canada was launched in 2017 and made permanent in 2022. Indeed, due to AIP Canada, as many as 6,000 immigrants come to the Atlantic Provinces every year.

You must know that the Canadian government gives special consideration for PR to people with education, skills, and work experience that can benefit its economy.

As per the Atlantic immigration program, the Atlantic provincial governments have the freedom to select immigrants suited to their economic requirements.

To apply for AIP Canada, you have to ensure the following:

  • You meet the eligibility criteria.
  • You must plan on settling permanently in one of the Atlantic Provinces.
  • Before you apply for immigration via the program, you must receive the endorsement letter from the Atlantic Province.
  • Job Offer from a designated program

The ultimate authority to make the final call on an application for PR lies with the IRCC. They conduct security, medical, and criminal screening of all the candidates.

👨‍🏭 Who Is Eligible For AIP Canada?

To apply for this program, you have to meet some requirements. For people outside of Canada, these include:

You have to apply for the appropriate program depending on your previous work experience. If you end up selecting the wrong program and do not possess the required work experience, your application will be canceled.

  • You must have at least a year of full-time or part-time equivalent work experience within the last three years in your primary occupation.
  • You should have experience performing actions in the lead statements of the NOC and also have performed a substantial number of main duties.
  • Only paid work can be counted as work experience, not unpaid internships or volunteer work. It helps if you have worked overseas or in Canada as a temporary resident.

Note: You cannot include periods of self-employment in your work experience.

To apply for the AIP Canada program, you must have a full-time, non-seasonal job offer from a designated employer in one of the Atlantic Provinces with at least a one year contract.

You have to submit your offer of employment with your application. Your employer has to complete a form and send you a copy. Read it carefully before signing the declaration at the bottom of the copy. This is then submitted with your application.

Only those applicants can apply for AIP Canada with a high-school diploma or a post-secondary certificate or degree.

In case you haven’t completed your education in Canada, you will require an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA). The purpose of this is to prove that your education is equal to a secondary or post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree in Canada.

It’s vital that your ECA report be less than five years old at the time of your application.

To be considered for the program, you need at least level 4 in the CLB or NCLC for listening, speaking, reading, and writing. You will also have to undergo language testing and submit it with your application. Language test results less than two years old must be submitted with the application.

📝 AIP For People Inside Canada

Note: For people inside Canada who wants to apply for AIP, all the requirements mentioned above are still necessary. However, here are additional requirements that you need to show.

Valid Immigration Status

If the applicant is already living in Canada and applying for the program, he has to present proof of a valid immigration status. Keep in mind that the status must be valid on the day of application submission.

Valid Passport and Proof of Entry

You can check your immigration status by looking at your passport. When you arrive in Canada, an officer must have authorized your stay in the country by stamping on your passport or issuing an additional document. Typically, the stamp will have the expiration date of your temporary residence.

If your passport has no stamp and you weren’t issued any additional documents, consider that your temporary resident status expired six months from your arrival date in the country.

💵 Financial Capabilities for AIP

Please note that you won’t be getting any financial support as a new immigrant from the government of Canada. For your application to be considered, you have to prove that you have enough funds to support yourself financially once you arrive in Canada.

You have to submit proof of your finances along with your application. For this, you can submit:

  • Current bank statements or certification letter
  • Proof of your savings balance
  • Deposit statements
Note: This doesn’t apply to those working in Canada with a valid work permit.

If you are from outside Canada, here are some financial requirements you need to remember.

Be Financially Stable

Keep in mind that you cannot borrow this money. You have to prove you have enough money to settle in Canada and also support your family financially, even if they aren’t coming to Canada with you.

The minimum amount of money you should have depends on the size of your family and is updated every year by the government.

Disclose Finances

If you enter Canada with more than CAN$10,000 or its equivalent in a foreign currency, you must disclose it to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officer.

Failure to do so can lead to fines or imprisonment.
